WA State HAZWOPER Hazardous Waste Operations

This is intended as an intermediate level course or advanced level course with site-specific requirements and information pertaining to hazardous waste facilities and operations in accordance with WAC 296-843. Course objectives integrate an understanding of the employer's basic programs that include: health and safety, hazard communication, medical surveillance, decontamination, new technology, materials handling, training, and emergency response. Additional concepts include the knowledge of and familiarity of site-specific plans such as: health and safety, emergency response, hazardous waste, and spill prevention and control. The 40-hour course is required for employees where their work and exposures may exceed the PEL or require protective clothing but do not require atmosphere supplying respirators which directly relates to requirements using Level C or Level D personal protective equipment and clothing. The 80-hour course is required for those employees required to use atmospheric supplying respirators which directly relates to requirements using Level A or Level B personal protective equipment and clothing.
HAZWOPER Hazardous Waste Operations Refresher

This course is intended to provide refresher training to meet federal
HAZWOPER requirements in 29 CFR 1910.120 (e) (8) and applicable state
approved requirements. Refresher training for employees is required annually, covering topics such as, names of personnel and alternates responsible for site
safety and health; Safety, health and other hazards present on the site;
Use of personal protective equipment; Work practices by which the
employee can minimize risks from hazards; Safe use of engineering
controls and equipment on the site; Medical surveillance requirements,
including recognition of symptoms and signs which might indicate
overexposure to hazards; and the contents of the site safety and health plan.
